This was the news prior to their launch event on April 10, 2009. Stay tuned for more coverage!

Asia Injury Prevention Foundation to launch the new Thailand Road Safety Campaign: “Helmet On = Head Safe” on April 10, 2009 at the Sofitel Bangkok Silom

Mr Greig Craft, President of the AIP Foundation requests the honor of inviting you to the charity launch event “Thailand Road Safety Campaign” that will be taking place on April 10, 2009.

Asia Injury Prevention Foundation (AIP Foundation) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating epidemic levels of road accident casualties in Southeast Asia. AIP Foundation currently includes a broad spectrum of programs such as: Helmets for Kids, Traffic Safety Curriculum Development, Traffic Safety Education and Engineering, Public Awareness Campaigns, policy advocacy and a non-for-profit helmet factory.

This launch event will be focusing on creating awareness of the necessity for child helmets. Proceeds of the event will go to the foundation’s Helmets of Kids program, through which more than 400,000 helmets have been donated already in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Sofitel Bangkok Silom will be hosting this event in its various Food and Beverage outlets and function areas, starting with a Press Conference from 15h30 – 18h00 at the highly acclaimed Chinese restaurant, Shanghai 38. To honor this Press Conference, international film star and road safety goodwill Ambassador Ms. Michelle Yeoh takes part of this conference talk along with Mr. Greig Craft, Founder and President of AIP Foundation and Dr. Tawatchai Laosirihongthong Vice-President of AIP Foundation.

Following the Press Conference, at 18h30 a cocktail party will be sponsored by Sofitel Bangkok Silom at The Conference function rooms (36th Floor), where a ribbon cutting ceremony will be taking place. To add more into the curriculum of the event, Academy Fantasia, the most popular singing contest and reality TV show in Thailand will be performing at the cocktail party. The Art students of KMUT will be teaching young and old how the decorate helmets and the students will participate in design contest.

To complete this event, a VIP Fundraising Gala Buffet Dinner will be hosted at Mistral Restaurant at the Sofitel Bangkok Silom from 20h30 onwards. Joining this event will be the Thai Youth Orchestra, playing their finest music pieces during this gourmet dinner joined by the high-societies of Thailand, VIPs, and celebrities.

Recently appointed Karin Lohitnavy, Country Director for AIP Foundation in Thailand said: "Since I first became involved with AIP Foundation two years ago, I have been impressed by their child focused mission in South East Asia. I have supported the fundraising for their Helmets for Kids program, so it is a natural progression for me to continue developing this collaboration. Being an AIP Foundation representative will be an added opportunity to participate in the critical debate on improving road safety in Thailand”

Michael Hanratty, General Manager of Sofitel Bangkok Silom, mentioned “Road safety is indeed an issue here in Thailand, we are astonished by the number of casualties generated yearly caused by road accidents. We are delighted to host this event at Sofitel Bangkok Silom, ACCOR greatly values social awareness and responsibility. We strongly believe that AIP Foundation will lead a safer path to the youth in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam”.

The AIP Foundation, an American non-profit organization engaged in improving global road safety, is preparing to implement a massive road safety behavior change and public education campaign in Thailand. More than 13,000 Thais died and 95,000 were seriously injured or permanently disabled last year due to road traffic injuries. In addition to human lives, the economic losses are estimated at 120,000 million baht according to the ADB.
