Asian Integrative Medical Conference 2010 a success

Organized by TRIA Integrative Wellness and Medical Institute in cooperation with Piyavate Hospital Foundation, FIM Faculty of Integrated Medicine, NIA National Innovation Agency, Thailand’s Ministry of Public Health, the three-day Asian Integrative Medical Conference 2010 took place from 9 to 11 August 2010 at TRIA Integrative Medical Institute - one of the first events of its kind in Asia.

With the aim to strengthen and support Integrative Medicine in Asia by understanding ways in which the current health system can be developed to provide more effective means of diagnosis and treatment, the conference was held on the 4th Floor of TRIA Integrative Wellness Centre at Bangkok’s Piyavate Hospital and included exhibition booths, product displays and seminar sessions.

Key conference topics were An Overview of Integrative Medicine, All About Food, Pioneering Therapies, Integrative Cardiology, Integrative Cancer Treatment, Mind and Body Connection, Interactive Recess: Integrative Eating- 5W's, Interactive Recess: Pranayam (The Art of Breathing).

Professor Nithi Mahanonda, M.D., FRACP, FACC, FSCAI, FCSANZ, CEO of Piyavate Hospital and chairman of the conference organizing expressed beforehand, “We hope to achieve two main goals at this conference. The first is to strengthen and support Integrative Medicine in Asia by understanding ways in which we can develop the current health system to provide more effective means of diagnosis and treatment. This can be achieved by looking at the way Integrative Medicine is practised around the world."

“Our second goal is to demonstrate the benefits of Integrated Medicine in our society with exchange of ideas and to provide a forum for further innovation and development. We have planned many activities for delegates at this first-ever event in Asia, such as meditation, yoga, qi gong workshops and many more. This conference does not only broaden our knowledge of Integrative Medicine, but to allow delegates to fully experience it.”

Khun Sansern Ngaorungsi, Deputy Governor for International Marketing (Asia and South Pacific) Tourism Authority of Thailand, spoke of the TAT's commitment to medical tourism.

Integrative Medicine combines conventional Western medicine with safe, evidence-based complementary and alternative therapies to focus on the whole person to achieve optimal wellness where the patient also has a greater sense of personal control.
